Apple Castle Ride (10 miles): This is the Tour De Donut signature ride which offers plenty of Amish scenery and a rest stop at the Apple Castle. You may find that this is enough for the day. You might also consider a longer route after finishing this one or choose this course for a little extra after you’ve completed one of the longer ones.
Country Roads (29 miles): This is a favorite route for many; probably because it offers plenty of scenery on lightly traveled roads, and is relatively free of steep hills (relatively means in comparison to other courses in this part of Western PA). This year’s course is similar to last years but does take a few new turns. The rest stop is at the midway point at a genuine old-fashioned country store.
The New Wilmington Dirty Dozen (40+ miles): This is an intentionally hilly course meant for seasoned riders. The route is the same as in past years with the exception that we have made some adjustments to avoid a section on unpaved road (we pay attention to feedback). There is a rest stop near the Volant Mill area.
Amish Farms and Covered Bridge Tour (30 miles):
“Enjoy thirty miles of country smiles while cycling through three of the prettiest Amish farm regions around New Wilmington! Leaving the college, the tour will take riders along back streets up to Heather Heights cruising past harness shops, donut stands, lush fields and greenhouses. After a rest stop at the Apple Castle, (mile 8), riders journey next to the farmland surrounding Bend Road, a beautiful region that was once featured in a “made for TV” movie.
The last leg starts with a rest stop at Ferris Farm where strawberries are featured, then continues through the small town of Fayette, past beautiful Amish farms, over Neshannock Cree via the Banks Covered Bridge and then back again into New Wilmington. Be sure to stop at the many Amish shops along the way!
Intermediate riders should have no problems with the hills. Busier roads are crossed occasionally and in a few sections, single file riding should be observed. As always, stay alert, watch for caution signs and wear a helmet. Don’t forget your camera!”
